Niceville Engineering & Research Developmental (NERD) Lab
At NERD Lab, we believe in work-learning experiences to expose, inspire and train students in STEM fields. We primarily serve as a student-led materials characterization lab where students will have the opportunity to work with scientist and engineers from across the nation to understand how materials and structures are enabling technologies that allow performance, affordability, survivability, and reliability across all industries, including defense, aerospace, pharmaceutical, automotive, etc. We are particularly interested in working with teams with large sample quantities and are interested in establishing feeder programs to government, industry, and academia. We have a range of virtual capabilities that allows real-time participation.

Engineering education research describes STEM identity as one of the primary indicators of students pursuing and persisting in science, technology, engineering, and math fields. At NERD Lab, our vision is to increase the number of students with positive STEM identities by lowering the barriers to entry through easily accessible high value work-learn opportunities. Therefore, our programs are open to any student interested in participating. We firmly believe that exposure and training can pique the interests of even the most unlikely students. We're very interested in collaborating with investigators working to understand the relationship between work-learning experiences and STEM identities, interest, and persistence.

The goal of NERD Lab is to provide a range of exciting, hands-on STEM outreach activities and competition events for K-12 students and their families. We're always looking for ways to partner with other groups and organizations to help increase the success and impact of our events. We'd love to support other local educational and STEM organizations as well.
